Job Overview

LABUSA is seeking an experienced UI/UX Designer and Information Architect to support Drupal-based websites utilizing modern headless architectures. The ideal candidate will design intuitive, accessible, and responsive digital experiences while working closely with Drupal developers and front-end engineers using technologies such as React, Next.js, and API-driven content platforms.

Responsiblities

  • Conduct user research, stakeholder interviews, and usability assessments.
  • Develop personas, user journeys, site maps, and information architecture.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity responsive designs in Figma.
  • Design reusable UI components and design systems that align with headless Drupal content models.
  • Define navigation structures, taxonomies, and content organization strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate with Drupal developers, front-end developers, content teams, and project managers.
  • Support continuous website improvements through analytics, usability testing, and user feedback.
  • Produce design specifications and documentation for implementation teams.

Skills and Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of UI/UX design and information architecture experience.
  • Experience designing websites powered by Drupal or other enterprise CMS platforms.
  • Strong proficiency with Figma and component-based design systems.
  • Experience designing responsive web applications and mobile-first interfaces.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1 AA).
  • Experience conducting user research and usability testing.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with distributed technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Headless Drupal, Decoupled CMS, or API-driven web architectures.
  • Experience working alongside React, Next.js, Vue, or modern JavaScript development teams.
  • Knowledge of Drupal content modeling, taxonomies, and structured content.
  • Experience supporting nonprofit, government, or international organization websites.
  • Familiarity with SEO, analytics, and conversion optimization best practices.

Additional Requirements

This role is part of the LABUSA Client Website Hosting, Maintenance, Design, Development, and Support Services project. The following terms apply to every position on this engagement.

Contract Period & Term

This Independent Contractor engagement commences on September 1, 2026 and continues through August 31, 2028, unless terminated earlier in accordance with the Independent Contractor Agreement.

  • Year 1: September 1, 2026 – August 31, 2027
  • Year 2: September 1, 2027 – August 31, 2028

Continuation beyond Year 2 may be offered based upon availability of project funding, client contract continuation, contractor performance, and the business requirements of LABUSA.

Work Location

This is a remote work assignment. The Contractor may perform services from any approved location with reliable internet access and the ability to participate in virtual meetings and collaboration activities. The Contractor shall provide all equipment, internet connectivity, and workspace necessary to perform assigned duties unless otherwise approved by LABUSA.

Standard Working Hours
  • Monday through Friday
  • 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
  • Forty (40) hours per week, or equivalent standard working hours within the Contractor’s country of residence
  • Primary project operating time zone: Central European Time (CET)

The Contractor must maintain sufficient overlap with CET business hours to support project meetings, client communications, issue resolution, and collaborative work activities.

Extended Hours & Weekend Support

Certain project activities may require work outside normal business hours, including evenings and weekends — such as production deployments, emergency maintenance, security incident response, critical bug fixes, website outages, client-requested deadlines, infrastructure upgrades, and disaster recovery activities. When possible, advance notice will be provided; emergency support requirements may require immediate availability.

Response Time Requirements

Standard Issues

  • Respond within eight (8) hours during normal business days.
  • Respond within twelve (12) hours during weekends and holidays.

Critical Issues — The Contractor shall maintain an emergency response capability for critical incidents requiring immediate attention (website outages, security incidents, infrastructure failures, database failures, and service disruptions impacting users), beginning investigation and remediation as soon as reasonably possible after notification.

Reporting Structure

The Contractor shall report to the LABUSA Project Manager, the LABUSA Account Manager, and the Designated Client Representative (when authorized by LABUSA). The Contractor shall not independently establish contractual obligations with the client.

Performance Expectations
  • Perform services in a professional and timely manner.
  • Follow LABUSA policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all client information.
  • Adhere to project schedules and deadlines.
  • Participate in project meetings and status updates.
  • Maintain accurate timesheets and work records.
  • Provide documentation for work completed.
  • Cooperate with other project team members.
Deliverables

Deliverables vary based on the assigned position and may include project plans, technical designs, website development, Drupal maintenance, infrastructure administration, security assessments, user experience designs, testing reports, documentation, support services, and monthly status reports. All deliverables created under this engagement are considered work-for-hire and become the exclusive property of LABUSA and/or its client as applicable.
