Job Overview

LABUSA is seeking a Senior Drupal UX/UI & Accessibility Specialist to design, evaluate, improve, and validate accessible, responsive, and user-friendly Drupal websites.

The position focuses on user experience, information architecture, website navigation, accessible interface design, WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, accessibility testing, and remediation.

The successful candidate will collaborate with Drupal developers, technical architects, and project stakeholders to ensure that websites are accessible to users with disabilities and provide consistent, effective experiences across devices and browsers.

This is a remote, project-based opportunity for experienced UX/UI and accessibility professionals with demonstrated hands-on experience supporting Drupal or comparable enterprise content management platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive UX/UI assessments and accessibility audits of Drupal websites.
  • Evaluate website interfaces and content against WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility requirements.
  • Perform automated accessibility testing using axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, and comparable tools.
  • Conduct manual accessibility testing using keyboard navigation, NVDA, VoiceOver, and other assistive technologies.
  • Identify accessibility barriers affecting navigation, forms, images, documents, interactive components, and multimedia.
  • Prepare accessibility findings, severity classifications, remediation recommendations, and verification reports.
  • Collaborate with Drupal developers to implement and validate accessibility remediation.
  • Design accessible, responsive page layouts, navigation structures, forms, and reusable interface components.
  • Develop wireframes, prototypes, design systems, and UI specifications using Figma or comparable tools.
  • Evaluate and improve information architecture, content organization, taxonomy, and navigation.
  • Review Drupal themes, Twig templates, and content presentation for accessibility and usability.
  • Support accessible content modeling and publishing workflows.
  • Evaluate website usability across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices.
  • Conduct usability assessments and recommend improvements to user journeys.
  • Support accessible forms, validation messages, error handling, and interactive functionality.
  • Assess color contrast, typography, focus management, semantic HTML, and ARIA implementation.
  • Perform regression accessibility testing following application changes and releases.
  • Provide accessibility guidance to developers, content editors, and website administrators.
  • Prepare UX/UI documentation, accessibility reports, remediation tracking records, and training materials.
  • Participate in design reviews, testing activities, and stakeholder meetings.

  • Minimum five years of professional experience in UX/UI design, web accessibility, or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience assessing and remediating websites against WCAG 2.1 AA.
  • Strong understanding of WAI-ARIA, semantic HTML, CSS3, responsive design, and accessible interface patterns.
  • Practical experience using axe, WAVE, Lighthouse, or equivalent accessibility testing tools.
  • Experience performing manual keyboard and screen reader testing.
  • Familiarity with NVDA, VoiceOver, or comparable assistive technologies.
  • Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, and design systems using Figma or equivalent tools.
  • Strong understanding of information architecture, navigation design, usability, and content organization.
  • Experience identifying, documenting, prioritizing, and validating accessibility issues.
  • Ability to collaborate with developers to implement accessible website components.
  • Understanding of accessibility requirements for forms, documents, multimedia, and dynamic interfaces.
  • Strong technical documentation, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with distributed project teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Information Technology, Graphic Design, or a related discipline.
  • IAAP Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC), Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS), or equivalent certification.
  • Experience supporting Drupal 10 or Drupal 11 websites.
  • Knowledge of Drupal theming, Twig, content types, and publishing workflows.
  • Experience with WCAG 2.2 AA and Section 508.
  • Familiarity with accessibility conformance reporting and VPAT/ACR documentation.
  • Experience conducting accessibility audits for government or educational institutions.
  • Experience with JavaScript accessibility, dynamic content, and complex web applications.
  • Experience designing accessible multilingual websites.
  • Knowledge of Google Analytics 4, SEO, and web performance best practices.
  • Experience developing accessibility training materials for website administrators and content editors.
  • Familiarity with automated accessibility testing in CI/CD pipelines.

Additional Requirements

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an experienced UX/UI and accessibility professional capable of independently evaluating websites, identifying accessibility barriers, recommending improvements, and verifying completed remediation.

The candidate must demonstrate actual experience conducting accessibility assessments and collaborating with developers to resolve technical issues.

Preference will be given to professionals who can provide specific examples of accessibility audits, WCAG success criteria addressed, remediation performed, testing tools used, and measurable improvements achieved.

Work Arrangement
  • Remote, project-based engagement.
  • Part-time or as-needed assignments based on development and accessibility requirements.
  • Coordination with LABUSA personnel during US Central Time business hours.
  • Access to development and staging environments through approved remote access technologies.
  • Participation in accessibility audits, design reviews, remediation verification, and scheduled releases.
  • Compliance with LABUSA security, confidentiality, and project documentation procedures.
  • Contract duration and extensions depend on project needs.
